Nicolas Cage To Play Dracula Opposite Nicholas Hoult In ‘Renfield’

How is it that Nicolas Cage hasn’t played a classic movie monster before? He played a guy who thought he was a vampire in Vampire’s Kiss, but I mean the real deal. This is an error that must be corrected ASAP, and fortunately for all of us Cage-a-holics out there, it’s about to happen as part of Universal’s upcoming film Renfield, meaning he’ll join the previously cast Nicholas Hoult.

If you remember anything about Renfield it’s probably that it won’t center on Dracula himself. Instead, the film will star Hoult as his infamous lackey and henchman, Renfield, an inmate at an insane asylum. In Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Renfield drinks blood and eats bugs in servitude to Dracula in hopes of gaining immortality.

Renfield will be directed by The Tomorrow War‘s Chris McKay and have a much lighter tone, described as a modern-day adventure/comedy and could be similar in tone to What We Do in the Shadows. Considering the script is by Rick and Morty writer Ryan Ridley from an idea by The Walking Dead‘s Robert Kirkman, it’s almost guaranteed to be funny and extremely dark. Cage should fit right in, and he better be wearing a cape, too. [THR]
