Soprano Johanna Will will give a special concert as a part of the Music for Thought Series. The concert will take place on Dec. 12, 2021.

The Program for the concert includes poetry from the 19th and 20th centuries. The soprano will be accompanied by pianist Hannah Harnest.

Themes of love, dazzling fragrances, reminiscence of happy times, and the unconscious, but also perpetual sleep and allegories of death inspired the great Viennese composers, such as Strauss, Schubert, Mahler, and Korngold, as well as the more modern American composers, such as Barber and Crumb, to write the most captivating musical settings. The choice of a program reflects an intention to showcase how poetry and music meet psychoanalysis.

Psychotherapist Roberta Marin will join Will and Harnest after the concert for a talk about understanding why the unconscious and sleep matter in the 21st century.

The concert is a part of Season Two of the Music for Thought Series, which is being supported by the German Consulate in New York City.
