As the renovation of Hotel Willa experiences delays due to COVID-19 and supply chain issues, The Paseo Project is working closely with them in planning creative projects through their projected opening, next year.
Due to the ongoing construction on the Paseo, the property’s fence had to be repositioned, and they have now installed a taller fence on site, to prevent trespassing while renovations are underway.
The Casetta Hospitality Group (the owners of the much anticipated new hotel, rising from the rubble of the old Indian Hills Motel), reached out to the Paseo peeps to see if they could hire local artists to bring life to the blank space.
“We are excited to get this project fast-tracked before the winter,” Paseo’s J. Matt Thomas told Tempo, “Helping to create a more colorful and expressive entry to Taos.”
The installation, although temporary will certainly brighten the façade through the winter months.
On Saturday, Nov. 27, from 9 a.m. till sunset — a Mural Painting Day at Hotel Willa was in effect.
“A number of artists from our original 'Taos Mural' list were contacted,” said Thomas, “ And we are so grateful for the artists who could come out and paint with such short notice.”
Among the artists on hand, were Jodie Herrera, David Vedoe, Jeralyn Lujan Lucero, Rafa Tarín and Israel Haros Lopez, along with a Taos youth art team put together by Amber Vasquez-Thomas.
Taos News photographer Nathan Burton was on hand to capture the moment.
