The Philadelphia High School basketball teams split a pair of games with Union Monday night.

The Tornadoes, under first-year head coach Francisco Wilson, won their game 51-12, while the Union girls defeated Philadelphia 53-50.

The Tornadoes led 10-2 after the first quarter. They then outscored Union 18-5 in the second quarter and led 28-7 at the half. Philadelphia would outscore the Yellowjackets 23-5 in the second half and improve to 1-2 on the season.

Devonte Scott led the Tornadoes with 14 points while Javion Carter added eight.

The Philadelphia and Union battled back and forth in the girls game. The Lady Tornadoes led 11-6 after the first quarter. Union came back in the second quarter to outscore Philadelphia 19-13 and led 25-24 at the half. Union outscored the Lady Tornadoes 9-6 in the third quarter and led 34-30 heading into the final quarter. Both teams put the ball in the goal, with Philadelphia outpointing the Lady Yellowjackets 21-19. But Union walked away with a two-point win. Shaytrece Mingo leading scorer for Union.
