The non-profit organization made up Fertile-Beltrami parents, coaches, alumni, and community members was relaunched earlier this winter with a goal supporting their extracurricular activities. Hawley FFA Hosting Annual Fishing Tournament this Saturday
Hawley, MN — The Hawley FFA program welcomes all to participate in their 23rd annual Fishing Derby this Saturday from 10am until 2pm on Middle Cormorant Lake. The entry fee is just $5. The largest fish will win $30 and a plaque, followed by $20 and $15 for 2nd and 3rd largest. Highest total weight will receive $25 and a plaque and $20 for 2nd. A surprise will be award for the smallest fish weighed in. Permanent fish houses or spearing houses may be used, as well as tip ups. Hawley High School Principal Kelly Anderson encourages anglers to brave the cold and support the always active Hawley FFA.

Norman County East SnoDaze Coronation Scheduled for Monday Morning
Twin Valley, MN — The Norman County East School has a busy, but fun week ahead of them next week as the staff and students celebrate Snow Daze! There will be fun activities, dress up days, and of course a crowning of a King and Queen, as well as a prince and princess. However, a slight change this year with the coronation. Norman County East Principal Raina Askin says they will do the crowning on Monday morning at 9am.

Norman County Applies for EPA Solid Waste & Recycling Grants
Ada, MN — Norman County is teaming up with 8 other counties in Northwest Minnesota to help solidify the future of solid waste in the county. The permit for the current Norman County Demolition Landfill expires in 2029 and its unlikely to be renewed after that. But nine total counties facing similar issues are now working together to find a solution for their solid waste needs. Those counties include Beltrami, Cass, Clearwater, Hubbard, Mahnomen, Marshall, Norman, Polk, and Red Lake. Together, they are applying for a $4 million Environmental Protection Agency Infrastructure grant to create a “hub and spoke” system between them, according to Garry Johanson of Norman County Environmental Services.

Veterans in Suicide Crisis Can Get Free Emergency Health Care
WASHINGTON – As of Jan. 17, Veterans in acute suicidal crisis will be able to go to any VA or non-VA health care facility for emergency health care at no cost – including inpatient or crisis residential care for up to 30 days and outpatient care for up to 90 days. Veterans do not need to be enrolled in the VA system to use this benefit, according to John Rosenberger of Norman County Veteran Services.
