Australia will host the ICC Men's T20 World Cup in 2022 as reigning champions.

The tournament comes less than a year since the previous World Cup in the UAE and Oman.

There will be 16 countries competing in 2022, with over 45 matches to be played on cricket grounds across Australia.

WHEN IS THE T20 WORLD CUP 2022?

Australia was originally meant to host the tournament in 2020, but it was postponed due to COVID-19.

The newly-scheduled ICC T20 World Cup 2022 will begin on October 16.

The semi-finals will be played on November 9 and 10, ahead of the final at the MCG on November 13.

WHERE IS THE T20 WORLD CUP 2022?

The ICC has announced a number of Australian cities and stadiums that will be hosting games:

The two semi-finals will be played in Adelaide and Sydney, with the final to be played at the historic Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Tournament CEO Michelle Enright believes it will be an international celebration of the game of cricket.

"With the unprecedented disruptions over the past two years, bringing the ICC Men's T20 World Cup to Australia for the first time offers a perfect opportunity for fans across the whole country to experience the joy of a live global sporting event again," Enright said.

"The ICC Women's T20 World Cup in 2020 produced some incredible moments and created memories that will live with Australian cricket fans forever.

"Now it’s time for the men’s event to take centre stage and claim its own place in history."
