Super seniors Anna Squiers and Madison Squiers represent Nebraska-Kearney volleyball on the 2021 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-Central Region team.
This team is voted upon by head coaches from the Central Region which is made up of schools from the MIAA, GAC (Great American Conf.), and NSIC (Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conf). A total of 21 players were chosen with 15 on the main team and six named honorable mention. Each is eligible for AVCA All-American honors; that team will be announced next week prior to the Elite Eight in Tampa.
Both Anna and Maddie earn their second All-Central Region honors and both hit major milestones this fall, Anna reaching 1,000 career kills (1,058) and Maddie recording career assist number 6,000 (now 6,152) and career dig number 1,500 (now 1,610).
In the middle, Anna enters tomorrow’s NCAA Tournament at 2.8 kills, 0.9 blocks, and 0.2 aces per set while hitting .390. She leads UNK in attack percentage, total blocks, solo stuffs, and block assists while ranking second in kills and kills per set. Next, she is one of eight Lopers to have a double-digit service ace total. Finally, Anna is available this weekend after missing the MIAA Tournament semifinal match due to injury.
Running another efficient offense is Madison as UNK is hitting .273, averaging 13.8 kills per set with six different players having at least 100 kills. Madison is at 11.8 assists, 3.1 digs, 0.9 kills, 0.5 aces and 0.4 blocks a set while hitting .292. She ranks 10th in Loper history in career assists (2,683) with her per set average of 11.57 fifth-best in UNK lore.
UNK didn’t garner a selection to the D2 Conference Commissioner’s Association (CCA) All-Central Region team. That is voted upon by sports information directors within the region.
