It's not too late to get a real Christmas tree this year.
Normally when you buy a real Christmas tree, you buy one that is already cut down. Another option? You can plant your own tree.
"A lot of people love the smell of a fresh-cut Christmas tree in the house, but there's another way to get that smell by using an actual live Christmas tree that you would plant in the yard after the holiday is over," Jos Zamzow, Zamzows Co-CEO said.
Zamzow says there are a few things to keep in mind if you want to keep the tree healthy for years to come.
"The first one that we recommend you do is dig the hole that you plan to plant it in right now. The ground is not frozen here, and so it's a lot easier digging than if you wait until January," Zamzow said.
The second thing you need to do? Get the tree ready to come inside.
"You are going to bring your live tree into the garage and then it is not quite as cold as outside but it is not as warm as it is inside the house. Then one week before Christmas, you can bring your live tree into the living room, decorate it all up as you would normally, and enjoy it," Zamzow said.
The last step? Preparing the tree to be planted in your yard.
"The decorations come off and the tree goes back to the garage for another week to ten days, to kind of get used to being cold again, and then right after that, it needs to go into the planting hole in the ground, ready to go for spring," Zamzow said.
