Former Chicago Blackhawks defenseman and three-time Stanley Cup Champion Brent Seabrook is getting behind the bench for his first post-playing career coaching experience. Announced by the Vancouver Giants today, the former Canadian Gold Medalist will be joining the Giants’ coaching staff on an interim basis as a volunteer assistant while Vancouver head coach Michael Dyck is with Team Canada preparing for the World Junior Championships at the end of the month.
From Seabrook’s Statement:
I’m grateful to the Vancouver Giants ownership, management staff, and the Tampa Bay Lightning for allowing me this opportunity to give back to the game and to help out while Michael Dyck goes for Gold. I’m looking forward to being part of the great culture the Giants have created and I can’t wait to get started.
If you forgot that Seabrook was technically a member of the Tampa Bay Lightning, you’re not alone.
The Giants are currently 10-7-1 this season with 21 points in the standings, good for fifth in the WHL Western Conference.

Seabrook played his Junior hockey in the WHL from 2001-2005 with the Lethbridge Hurricanes, serving as Captain for two seasons. He is set to join the Vancouver staff this evening as they take on his former roommates’ younger brother, Colton Dach and the Kelowna Rockets.
