A man police said was running from a traffic stop when he got hit by an 18-wheeler will be facing charges, Tuscaloosa Police said Wednesday.

The 26-year-old man from Gallion, who police have not yet identified, was running from a traffic stop on Interstate 20/59, just west of the Interstate 359 junction Tuesday night.

Two West Alabama Narcotics Task Force officers stopped the man’s car for speeding and smelled marijuana while speaking to the driver. They asked him to get out of his vehicle. He did so, but then ran toward traffic and was struck by an oncoming 18-wheeler. The man made it to the woods alongside the interstate, but officers soon found and took him into custody.

He was taken to DCH Regional Medical Center with injuries police said didn’t appear life-threatening.
