North Carolina man sentenced for trafficking a dozen loaded firearms into Rhode Island

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE)- The R.I. District Attorneys office has announced that a North Carolina man, Anthony Mondrez Thompson, 43, was sentenced after pleading guilty to the charge of being a felon in possession of firearms. He was in possession of a dozen loaded, high-powered firearms, night-vision goggles, a taser, and other items.

The discovery of the weapons occurred during a traffic stop by Rhode Island State Police.

According to court documents, the suspect was tasered after he attempted to flee on foot on Route 95 after a confrontation with State Police. A subsequent search of his vehicle led to the discovery of a loaded Glock .40 caliber pistol under the drivers seat and a flashlight attachment and laser sight attachment for the pistol. They also were able to seize eleven loaded firearms and ammunition clips, a backpack containing camouflage-patterned clothing, a taser, a can of pepper spray, night vision goggles, a machete, handcuffs, and handgun holster.

A analysis of the firearms showed that at least three of them had been reported stolen.

Appearing in court on Wednesday, Thompson was sentenced to 96 months, 8 years, in federal prison followed by two years of federal supervised release.
