The hip-hop and neo soul festival Smokin’ Grooves is moving to a new home in downtown L.A. for its return in 2022. And it’s doing so with an impressive lineup that includes Erykah Badu, Nas, The Roots and Miguel among the nearly 40 acts on the bill for the March 19 show.

Other acts on the lineup, which showcases the groovier and soulful side of hip-hop, include The Internet, Flying Lotus, Macy Gray, India.Arie, Talib Kweli, Musiq Soulchild and Thundercat.

Tickets go on sale Dec. 3 for the one-day festival at the Los Angeles State Historic Park. A pre-sale begins at 10 a.m. with a $19.99 down payment. At 2 p.m., all tickets go on sale and they start at $184.99 for general admission, $249.99 for general admission + and $399.99 for VIP.

Smokin’ Grooves was the first large-scale festival to bring hip-hop to masses of fans as it traveled across the country in 1996 to more than 30 cities.

The original festival only lasted three years, although there was a brief return in 2002 for a shorter version of the festival.

It was revived at the Queen Mary in Long Beach in 2018 and 2019 before finding its new home at the State Historic Park.
