While arresting a West Springfield man with kidnapping for extortion warrant, police seize high capacity magazines, ammo, drugs

During a warrant arrest on Tuesday, police in Springfield said they found more than 360 rounds of ammunition, including high-capacity magazines, in the backpack of the suspect.

A 25-year-old man from West Springfield is accused of carrying more than 360 rounds of various ammunition, including high capacity magazines, inside a backpack on Tuesday when police arrested him for an outstanding warrant, authorities said.

Jeremiah Ahearn had an outstanding warrant out of Northern Berkshire District Court on a charge of kidnapping for extortion when state police, Springfield police, the U.S. Marshal Task Force and the Hampden County Sheriff’s Department worked to locate and arrest him, authorities said.

Officers located Ahearn driving his car on the 200 block of White Street on Tuesday, authorities said. The warrant was based on an investigation by the North Adams Police Department.

During a search of Ahearn’s car, police said they found 22 grams of marijuana, nearly $1,000 and a backpack. Inside the backpack police recovered more than 360 rounds of various ammunition, a 30-round high capacity magazine and a 15 round high capacity magazine, authorities said.

Ahearn faces gun-related and drug charges in addition to operating a car with a suspended license.
