Alec Baldwin Says He Didn't Pull The Trigger During The Tragic Accident On 'Rust' Set Which Killed Halyna Hutchins

Since it was revealed that cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was tragically killed during an on-set accident while filming “Rust” back in October, there have been a lot of questions about what happened. Specifically, the questions seem to be aimed at Alec Baldwin, star and producer of “Rust,” who reportedly was holding the gun when it went off. Well, now the actor is ready for his first on-camera interview about the subject, but judging by the first clip, it doesn’t look like we’ll be getting many answers. Instead, his comments seem to produce even more questions.

Speaking to George Stephanopoulos for ABC News, Alec Baldwin has given his first major interview about the “Rust” incident and the death of Hutchins. The full interview won’t air until tomorrow, but the clip ABC has already shared does provide some interesting responses from Baldwin, even if they’re not going to provide clarity about what happened on set.

The biggest question surrounding the “Rust” incident is why there was live ammunition in the gun that went off and killed Hutchins. As for how the live ammunition found its way onto the set of “Rust,” Baldwin doesn’t have an answer.

“I have no idea,” Baldwin said. “Someone put a live bullet in a gun. A bullet that wasn’t even supposed to be on the property.”

That seems to be the answer that is being given by everyone involved—no one has any idea how the bullet found its way on set and how it ended up in the gun that was used during filming. And speaking of the gun, which Baldwin was holding during the incident, the actor says he didn’t actually pull the trigger, but somehow the gun fired anyway.

“The trigger wasn’t pulled. I didn’t pull the trigger,” he said. “I would never point the gun at anyone and pull the trigger at them. Never.”

Again, it’s hard to judge these answers without the full context of the interview, but so far, they don’t seem to be doing much to provide a better sense of what happened during the filming of “Rust” and what led to Halyna Hutchins’ death. You can watch the full clip below. The interview will air on ABC tomorrow at 8 PM ET.
