New World Update 1.1.1

One of these days, I’ll get to write a New World post that’s about some cool new feature being added to the game rather than the ongoing parade of posts about updates that fix things that broke when they fixed things – or somehow managed to do the exact opposite of what they intended when developing a feature, or about how things are being shut down for a while until they can fix things. That’s the dream anyway. As it stands, this is another “fix things” post. New World’s Update 1.1.1 addresses a few issues, some related to gathering and crafting and one related to accidentally deleted gear, among other things.

The two big changes in this update involve elemental enemies and Horticulture gear. On the elemental front, the developers have fixed an issue where the enemies were dropping too many motes – by removing motes as rewards obtained while gathering elemental creatures. This is to account for how many motes are already available in the world. At the same time, they’ve also reduced the number of other resources earned from elemental creatures for the same reason.

As far as Horticulture gear goes, the devs have addressed a bug that accidentally removed the gear acquired by players (because the system mistook it as future content) by giving everyone who lost their gear to the system a rewards chest containing Horticulturist armor equal to the highest Tier the player had previously acquired.

The update also addressed a crafting bug where Jewel crafting recipes weren’t giving enough trade skill XP. On the other end, those of you who might have enjoyed crafting lower-tiered items for XP are probably going to be a bit sad as the amount of XP granted for doing this has been lowered. It makes sense. You should be crafting higher-level stuff when you’re able to.

The good news is that housing functions related to the trading, moving, and salvaging of housing-related items have been re-enabled. Other, potentially good news, depending on your perspective and likely what server you’re on, is that the technical groundwork has been laid for server merges. War performance has also received some enhancements. Unfortunately, the patch notes don’t specify what those are quite yet.
