The Matrix Resurrections' trippy new trailer has arrived

The Matrix Resurrections' new trailer has arrived, but don't go expecting it to give you any answers about what to expect.

The trippy minute-long trailer cuts together a lot of footage and is hooked on déjà vu which, as Matrix fans know, happens when something is changed within the Matrix. "Maybe this isn't the story we think it is," we hear as the trailer comes to an end.

Honestly, we're no clearer what this movie will be about, but we cannot wait for it to arrive.

Last month to mark one month until the release of The Matrix Resurrections, Warner Bros released a new official poster for the movie, which you can check out below:

The eagerly awaited fourth Matrix movie will bring back Keanu Reeves as Neo and Carrie-Anne Moss as Trinity, 18 years after they both supposedly died in The Matrix Revolutions.

It's just one of several mysteries posed by the new movie with fans having fun speculating about how Neo is back, whether or not Jessica Henwick's Bugs is a villain and if Neil Patrick Harris is actually a new version of the Oracle.

Last month, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II tried to clear up some of the confusion over the fact that's he appearing in The Matrix Resurrections as Morpheus, instead of Laurence Fishburne who played the character in the original trilogy.

"This is definitely a different iteration of the character. I play a character who's definitely aware of the history of the Matrix [and] the history of Morpheus," he explained.

"What the viewers will come to understand is that there are many rules of the Matrix. Age, appearance, the things we identify as real, can be manipulated in that world. The Matrix is where anything is possible."

The new movie has been co-written and directed by Lana Wachowski, and she revealed in September 2021 that it was her grief for her parents that led her to bring back Neo and Trinity.

"My brain has always reached into my imagination and one night, I was crying and I couldn't sleep, and suddenly my brain exploded this whole story," she recalled.

"And I couldn't have my mom and dad, I couldn't talk to my mom, yet suddenly I had Neo and Trinity, arguably the two most important characters in my life. It was immediately comforting to have these two characters again."

The Matrix Resurrections is released in cinemas on December 22 and will also be available to watch on HBO Max in the US.
