What options do the Carolina Panthers have with quarterback Cam Newton once the 2021 season comes to a conclusion?
It’s been fantastic to see Cam Newton in a Carolina Panthers uniform once again over the last three weeks. The quarterback’s sensational return to the team sent shockwaves across the NFL and considering the situation, he’s performed well in the circumstances outside of last weekend’s dismal display at the Miami Dolphins.
Newton and the Panthers agreed to a deal that lasts until the end of the season. There was talk of a two-year contract that didn’t materialize, so it will be interesting to see what happens when the time comes for negotiations to begin.
Bringing Newton into the fold after such a messy departure was exactly what Carolina needed at a crossroads in their campaign. The whole atmosphere changed from the moment he arrived and one only has to look at how the crowd responded at Bank of America Stadium against the Washington Football Team to see what it meant to everyone involved.
Carolina’s aspirations in 2021 and a possible playoff place are precarious at best heading into their bye week. Getting better on the gridiron is the primary focus for Newton, his teammates, and the coaching staff, but there are already eyes being glanced towards what the future holds for the former Auburn star following the campaign.
