Staatsoper Berlin Announces Cast Change for ‘Turandot’

The Staatsoper Unter den Linden has announced that tenor Yusif Eyvazov will not be appearing in the role of Calaf in Puccini’s “Turandot” for performances between July 1 – 10, 2022.

As a result, tenor Murat Karahan will take over the role. Karahan joins a cast that includes Graham Clark, René Pape, Grigory Shkarupa, Olga Peretyatko, Gyula Orendt, Siyabonga Maqungo, Andrés Moreno García, David Oštrek, and Elena Pankratova in the title role. Zubin Mehta conducts a production by Philipp Stölzl.

Karahan is a well-known tenor who has performed at the Bolshoi Theatre, Arena di Verona, and Deutsche Oper Berlin, among others.

Eyvazov is still slated to sing the June 2022 performances which will star Anna Netrebko in the title role.
