Ocala woman, 28, killed in single-vehicle crash in NW Marion County

A 28-year-old Ocala woman was killed early Wednesday when she was ejected from her vehicle in a crash.

According to Florida Highway Patrol troopers on scene, the woman was driving an older model Toyota Camry eastbound on County Road 326. The woman lost control of the vehicle about 500 feet east of U.S. 27.

The vehicle veered onto the right shoulder, struck a tree and overturned, officials said. The vehicle struck several more trees and she was ejected.

Troopers said they believe speed was a factor. It was not immediately known if she had been wearing a seatbelt.

James Lucas, Marion County Fire Rescue spokesman, said his agency was assigned the call at 3:15 a.m. and arrived at 3:29 a.m. The woman was pronounced deceased at 3:31 a.m.

Troopers said motorists driving by the area saw the crash scene and called for help. FHP officials think the crash occurred about 2:30 a.m.

The patrol no longer provides names in its news releases.

In November, in all parts of Marion County except the City of Ocala, troopers recorded 11 traffic deaths. That compares with four in November 2020. Since Nov. 18, FHP officials have investigated six traffic deaths.

On Nov. 29, 2020, there were 89 deaths in Marion County, not including Ocala. The year ended with 93 traffic fatalities.

As of Dec. 1, 2021, troopers have investigated 75 traffic deaths.
