ZEELAND — Zeeland was the first of the lakeshore communities to kick off the holiday season with its Magical Christmas Parade on Monday, Nov. 29.

Hundreds of residents and visitors gathered to watch floats, bands and vehicles parade down Main Avenue in downtown Zeeland. Sightseers caught a glimpse of Santa Claus, and were able to watch the city's ceremonial tree lighting before the parade.

One of the lakeshore's first significant snowfalls of the season also fell on spectators during the parade, as cooler temperatures turned rain to snow in the evening hours.

The event was one of several holiday celebrations planned in the coming weeks. Holland's Parade of Lights took place Tuesday, Nov. 30. Saugatuck will follow with its annual Whootville Christmas Parade on Saturday, Dec. 4.
