West Mifflin High School switches to remote learning after threat

Students at West Mifflin Area High School learned remotely on Wednesday after the district was targeted by an online threat.

Superintendent Jeffrey Soles said the threat did not appear to be credible, but the district opted to keep students at home out of caution.

West Mifflin police are investigating the threat, which was sent Tuesday to about six students who received a text or email from an anonymous sender.

“Thankfully these responsible students immediately brought this to the administration’s attention,” Soles said in a memo to parents.

After-school events at the high school were canceled.

Classes are scheduled to resume Thursday.

This comes on the heels of at least three districts investigating similar threats earlier this week.

North Hills School District officials on Tuesday said threats communicated on Snapchat were deemed not credible.

Students at the 13 Propel Schools throughout Pittsburgh switched to remote learning Tuesday after threats were posted on social media, and two Pittsburgh Public Schools were targeted by a threat.
