Steelers land top QB in new 2022 mock draft

Make no mistake, the Pittsburgh Steelers are more than one player from being ready to compete in the AFC. Nevertheless, maximizing the talent with that all-so-important first-round pick next year will go a long way toward getting the franchise moving forward after quarterback Ben Roethlisberger retires.

Our friends over at Touchdown Wire have a new 2022 NFL mock draft out and the Steelers ended up with Ole Miss quarterback Matt Corral. Here’s what they had to say about the pick.

Here, the Steelers address the QB room and add a quarterback with both upside, as well as a QB who demonstrated growth during his 2021 season. After some turnover-filled contests in 2020 — including a five interception game against LSU and a six burger against Arkansas — Matt Corral cut down on the mistakes and showed growth from the pocket as a passer. He might face some schematic adjustments, moving from Lane Kiffin’s offense to the NFL, but his athleticism and development are not to be ignored.

Looking at how the draft played out to get the Steelers Corral with the No. 16 overall pick, things went about as well as expected. But if you look at the players taken after Corral, there are many guys who could help the Steelers win, there are several. Iowa center Tyler Linderbaum, defensive tackle Jordan Davis, defensive end DeMarvin Leal, offensive tackle Darian Kinnard and cornerback Kaiir Elam are all players at the top of their respective positions and would be immediate impact players in Pittsburgh.

Be sure to comment below and let us know if you are good with the pick of Corral and if not, who would you have taken instead.
