With a full-fledged movie studio on the near horizon, counting the number of film and television productions filmed in Athens will soon be a time-consuming task.

When documentaries, concerts and episodic series are figured in, the list is definitely a long one. But in terms of narrative features, particularly ones that saw a theatrical or home video release, the total comes to a little more than 20.

For those interested in putting together an Athens movie marathon, here's a look at 10 of the most notable local productions and where to find them.

The Green Hand (1940): Bankrolled by Sears-Roebuck & Co., the first movie to ever be filmed in Athens cast townies and University of Georgia staff members as the main characters. Though it's the only short film on this list, it's historically significant. Available at the UGA library via the Walter J. Brown Media Archives & Peabody Awards Collection.

Poor Pretty Eddie (1975): Drive-in sleazefest released in some cities as "Redneck County," the cult classic starring Shelley Winters, Leslie Uggams and Slims Pickens was shot at the old Charlie Williams Pinecrest Lodge. Available for free on Tubi and for rent on Apple TV and Amazon.

Parts of the movie were filmed at the Athens Speedway track, which was in operation from 1958 to 1992. Available on Prime Video and for rent on all major streaming platforms.

Cobb (1994): One of three movies on this list that filmed scenes on the UGA campus, this biopic of Major League Baseball Hall of Famer Ty Cobb was praised by critics for actor Tommy Lee Jones's portrayal of the lead character, who was born in rural Narrows, Ga. Available to rent on all major streaming video platforms.

Road Trip (2000): To date, this raunchy college comedy starring then-MTV comedian Tom Green stands as the last Hollywood movie to be granted permission to film on the UGA campus. Georgia Tech and Emory University were also used as locations. Available for free on Pluto TV and for rent on all major streaming platforms.

Not Since You (2009): Filmed entirely in Athens and executive produced by Epting Events catering company CEO Ashley Epting, this romantic drama centers on a group of college friends who reunite for a wedding in Georgia. Available for free on Tubi and Pluto TV and for rent on Amazon.
