QUESTION OF THE DAY: Should non-elected officials be able to issue health orders?

A Cole County judge ruled last week that non-elected officials, including public health directors, are violating the constitution when they issue health orders like those meant to fight the coronavirus pandemic.

It's an argument Missouri's attorney general has also made in lawsuits against local governments and schools.

But those who support the power of local health officials to issue orders say those officials know best how to protect public health, which is their area of expertise.
