Steam Deck Without Exclusive Titles

In the Steam Deck FAQ, Valve confirmed that the platform will not have any exclusive titles.

IN A NUTSHELL:

  • Valve has confirmed in the official FAQ that Steam Deck will not have any exclusive titles.

Steamworks documentation page, specifically the section for Valve's new device has an FAQ section. Among the issues addressed there is a confirmation that Steam Deck will not feature any exclusive titles.

"No, that doesn't make much sense to us. It's a PC and it should just play games like a PC."

The device will run on a modified version of Valve's SteamOS. The interface will be similar to what can be found on consoles. Despite this, the device will not be limited only to the collection of games from Steam. It is expected to allow for the installation of third-party software, which will make Steam Deck like a true portable PC.

Additionally, it's worth remembering that the device is not meant to replace the PC for gamers, but to be its mobile extension. For this very reason, excluding users with exclusive titles would not make much sense and could do a lot of damage in the future. Therefore, Valve's decision on this topic should not surprise anyone.

Unfortunately, the company recently announced that the release of Steam Deck will be delayed by two months. Shipment of the first units of this portable PC will take place only in February 2022 instead of December 2021. The main reason for the situation is the lack of parts needed to manufacture the device.
