Oklahoma football fans are suspicious of cornerbacks coach Roy Manning after five-star USC target Domani Jackson mentioned him in a recruiting article.

It started with a Top 2 and progressed into suspicions and accusations.

On Tuesday night, five-star cornerback Domani Jackson announced USC and Alabama as his choices heading into Early Signing Day.

In an article written by Greg Biggins of 247Sports, Jackson talked about Lincoln Riley “blowing up [his] phone” trying to get an in-home visit together. He talked about hearing from new USC defensive coordinator Alex Grinch and also Roy Manning, the cornerbacks coach who worked under Grinch at Oklahoma.

That got people talking. Here’s the thing: Manning is still recruiting for Oklahoma. Why is he talking to a recruit being pursued by USC?

At 2:14 p.m. CT, Oklahoma receiver commit Xavion Brice included Manning in a tweet about hosting Sooners coaches for a visit on Tuesday.

By the evening, Jackson was linking Manning to the USC staff.

Maybe something changed with Manning’s employment between then and Jackson talking to reporters. Maybe there’s something else at play. It’s not clear.

Oklahoma football fans are furious at Roy Manning over possible USC recruiting

The thing that is certain is the reaction of Oklahoma fans who are not happy with the idea of a currently employed Sooners’ coach chatting with one of USC and Riley’s biggest targets.

Manning has been at Oklahoma since 2019 when he joined Grinch on Riley’s staff. He has previously worked at UCLA, Washington State, Michigan and Cincinnati.

And if you were wondering if OU was aware of what’s going on, their Compliance Department offered a hilarious message seemingly in reference to the madness.

When Riley first flew to Los Angeles to take the USC job, coaches like Grinch and wide receivers coach Dennis Simmons joined him immediately. Manning was among the ones who stayed behind, though the possibility of him ultimately joining the Trojan staff has remained open.
