3 Trade Targets For Dallas Mavericks — Pass Or Pursue?

Luka Doncic is one of the best talents in the entire NBA, but the Dallas Mavericks have been a very underwhelming team to begin the 2021-22 season.

While they are 10-9 and currently the 4th best team in the Western Conference based on standings, it is really hard to say that they are even a Top-5 team in the West based on the “eye test”.

While Kristaps Porzingis and Tim Hardaway Jr. have played well to begin the year, the rest of this Dallas team just has so many holes to be filled. Their bench ranks just 22nd in the league in scoring and Jalen Brunson has accounted for a vast majority of their scoring off-the-bench.

Dorian Finney-Smith and Maxi Kleber will contribute on offense here and there, sometimes scoring in double-figures, but they are much more of defensive threats than anything else.

Offense is definitely a concern for this team right now, as Luka Doncic cannot single-handedly carry them through the Western Conference.

Finding another secondary ball-handler/facilitator will be key for this team ahead of the trade deadline, but the Dallas Mavericks just need to be willing to add more talent at any position.

Compared to teams like the Suns, Nuggets, Clippers, Jazz and Warriors, the Mavs just do not have the right personnel to succeed in the postseason right now.

The Mavericks are currently $18M under the tax line for this season, so they definitely have some room to maneuver when it comes to making trades, but Luka Doncic’s super-max contract is set to begin next season and this team could wind up running into some financial problems should they add another big contract at the trade deadline this season.

Do the Mavericks have the ability to make some big trades ahead of this season’s trade deadline? Let’s take a look at three players Dallas could target, as proposed by Bleacher Report’s Zach Buckley, and evaluate whether or not the Mavericks should “pass or pursue” said trade targets.
