Stop Your iPhone from Alerting You Twice for the Same iMessage | How To

If you use the Messages app on your iPhone, you’ve probably had this problem before. If you get a message, your iPhone will ping or notify you as soon as you get it. And that’s great and all, but sometimes you don’t want to answer it right away, so you ignore it. And then, a couple of minutes later, your iPhone will ping you again with the same message.

Sure, it’s helpful sometimes, but it can also be a bit annoying. The bad news is that this was made by design. The good news, however, is that you can turn it off completely.

By default, the Messages app will repeat alerts once for the messages you receive. Believe it or not, your iPhone can repeat the same alert up to ten times if you want it to. But you can also set it so that it never repeats the same alert twice. All you need to do is follow these steps:

How to Stop the Messages App from Repeating Alerts

  1. On your iPhone, open the Settings app.
  2. Scroll down and tap on Messages.
  3. Select Notifications.
  4. Scroll down again and tap on Customize Notifications.
  5. Tap Repeat Alerts.
  6. Choose how many times you want alerts to repeat.

If you’re reading this, you might want to choose never. But you can choose any option from the list and test it out for yourself to see which option drives you the least crazy.

By default, alerts will be repeated at two-minute intervals. Unfortunately, there’s no way to customize this time, but at least now you know when you should expect your notifications.
