As the weather gets colder, many people are turning to firewood to heat up their homes.
A group of business owners in the forestry community have teamed up to help those in need of an alternate heating source this winter.
The Fuel for Friends program run by members of ProFIA is giving firewood to people living in Pike or Wayne counties who are nominated by someone via a written letter.
“A son or daughter something like that will send letters talking about the hard times that the recipient has fell on. So then we will review those letters, then we just I don’t want to say pick the best one we pick the one feel is the most in need we’re gonna do it a little different you know if there is more of a need so we’re thinking of upping it from one to two cords to five or six cords," said Matt Carney, owner of Elite Timber Harvesting.
