It appears that Gary Sanchez could be returning to the Bronx next season.

The New York Yankees tendered the contract of the 28-year-old catcher on Tuesday, according to Jack Curry of the YES Network.

There had been some debate about what the Yankees would ultimately do with Sanchez, including considering him as a non-tender candidate, but he will be offered a contract and remain with the team, for now.

Sanchez is in his final year of arbitration eligibility and is projected to earn close to $8 million in 2022.

It is possible the Yankees could still move on from Sanchez via a trade, but the catching market is rather thin and there are not much internal options. A trade for another catcher may have been more likely prior to Tuesday night as it would have allowed them to non-tender Sanchez.

Earlier in November, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman spoke highly of Sanchez, complimenting his improvement on defense.

The Yankees also agreed to a $6.55 million deal with third baseman Gio and a $1.75 million contract with pitcher Domingo German for 2022, according to MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand.

No Yankees were non-tendered.
