A federal judge Tuesday blocked President Joe Biden’s coronavirus vaccination mandate for federal government contractors and subcontractors.
"During a pandemic such as this one, it is even more important to safeguard the separation of powers set forth in our Constitution to avoid erosion of our liberties," stated Federal Judge Terry A. Doughty, in the U.S. District Court Western District of Louisiana.
South Carolina was one of 14 states suing to stop the mandate. The suit claimed the federal government's mandate violated- among other things- the Tenth Amendment, which reserves any power not expressly given to the federal government to the states or the people.
The ruling is a preliminary injunction that will remain in effect until a final resolution can be made in the case or until further orders from various courts.
Hospitals and private employers can still require vaccinations themselves.
