BUFFALO, N.Y. (WKBW) — Buffalo police are attempting to locate a stolen trailer with Railmaster Antique train inside.
According to a post on the department's Facebook page, the 25-foot trailer with New York registration BP11016 was stolen on November 21 from 100 Lee Street by a suspect in an SUV that was possibly a Hummer H3.
Inside the trailer is a 1950s orange Railmaster Antique child's ride-on train worth thousands of dollars, according to police.
"It once operated in a little amusement park in Cheektowaga called Liberty Amusement Park," said Stephen Kocsis, the director of collections at the Western New York Railway Historical Society.
Kocsis tells 7 Eyewitness News someone cut the chain on the main gate, cut the lock off the trailer, hooked up the trailer and drove off with it. The train was put in the trailer about two weeks ago to protect it during the winter.
"We're torn between, if they knew what was inside the trailer or if they were just after the trailer and they got a big surprise when they opened it up," said Kocsis. "There’s only two or three of those type of trains in existence, anymore, and maybe only one other one like it that's operating."
