Arlington Officers Sign No-Confidence Petition Regarding Chief Al Jones

ARLINGTON (WBAP/KLIF) – Hundreds of Arlington Police Officers say they lack confidence in Chief Al Jones.

The Arlington Municipal Patrolman’s Association’ is pointing directly to Chief Jones’ decision in October to fire an Officer seen on video fatally shooting a suspect who ignored commands while driving his pickup truck. The firing came less than 48 hours later.

“We don’t believe that due process was done completely,” said Association President, Chris Ceballos. “You can bet that most Officers are being reactive now, opposed to proactive, because they are concerned that if they get involved in something, the command staff may not support them.”

Ceballos said hundreds of Officers are getting behind a no confidence petition regarding Chief Jones.

“We currently have 365 signatures on the petition and expect some more,” Ceballos said.

According to Ceballos, the petition isn’t a call for the Chief to be fired, but instead an alert to the city that there are issues within the department. He planned to present the petition to the City Council on Tuesday night.

Chief Jones said shortly after the October firing that he is dedicated to transparency. He said that what was seen on the video will not change.
