Jack Hughes will make his return to the Devils on Tuesday night, skating on his home ice at the Prudential Center, which will now be his home for years to come.
New Jersey announced Tuesday that it is signing its former No. 1 overall pick to an eight-year contract extension, just as the 20-year-old returns from a dislocated shoulder that sidelined him for over a month.
Hughes, the top pick in the 2019 draft, had a 2021 cap hit of $925,000, and will now make $8 million per year. He has appeared in just two games this season, but has two goals, including an overtime game-winner, and an assist in that time. In 119 career games, he has 20 goals and 35 assists, totaling 55 points.
"I'm so excited to sign this deal for myself and for my family," Hughes said in a statement. "I love being in New Jersey and I love playing in New Jersey. I wouldn't want to play anywhere else, and we are really building something special. I believe in what we are doing here, and we have a great chance to be successful for a long time.
