State Senator James Skoufis announces state funding for BRIDGES program at SUNY Orange

NEWBURGH – It’s the giving season, and state Senator James Skoufis, (D, Cornwall) has secured $100,000 for SUNY Orange to help fund its BRIDGES program.

That is a three-year set of non-credit workshops for those with developmental disabilities, such as young adults, help with their basic adulthood skills, so they can remain independent.

“The program is a magnificent one and transformative,” said Skoufis. “The young adults who come through the door of BRIDGES, their lives are changed when they are done with the three-year program.”

Skoufis said the program relies on state funding, which has been difficult at times to obtain to help these adults with needed life skills.

“It’s always a fight. The previous governor always tried to cut the program’s funding,” said Skoufis. “Working with partners like SUNY Orange, we were able to secure the $100,000 and make sure this program can keep touching lives here in Orange County.”
