Turkey is eaten, shopping is done, now it’s time for Christmas fun. The Junior Auxiliary of Houma is partnering with La Caretta to host a Holiday Drive-in Movie event on Sunday, Dec.5, at 6:00 p.m. at La Carreta located at 1327 St.Charles St. Houma.

The evening will start with live music by American Idol star Jena Hunts at 4 p.m. leading up to the viewing of two holiday classics. For the kids, The Grinch will premiere at 6:00 p.m. followed by National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation at 8:00 p.m. La Carreta will be serving delicious Mexican food and Junior Auxiliary of Houma will be serving popcorn, candy, and hot chocolate.

Glynn Voisin, General Manager of LaCaretta, said the holiday drive-in movie was inspired by an activity the restaurant provided to the community while in quarantine last year. “During the Corona shutdown, we were not allowed to serve guests in the restaurant, but we were allowed to serve take out. What I started doing was figuring out a way that we can still cater to the community but within the regulations and decided on doing drive-in movie nights.”

Voisin says the drive-in movies are what helped the restaurant stay afloat during covid shut-downs. “It really saved the restaurant, to be honest, and a lot of employees’ jobs, but it also brought the community together for something different,” reads a statement from Voisin. “The Junior Auxiliary contacted me to see if it’s something we’d be interested in doing again and we decided to put together a Holiday Christmas Movie event.

Voisin added, “Guests will be served by La Caretta staff and the Junior Auxiliary of Houma. We encourage everyone to come and tailgate in their vehicles and enjoy live music and movies!”

Admission to the Holiday Drive-in Movie is free. 10 percent of proceeds made will go towards the Junior Auxiliary of Houma’s service projects in the community.  For more information on the Holiday Drive-in Movie, visit the Junior Auxiliary of Houma’s Facebook or contact LaCaretta at (985) 876-0830.
