While the shopping season is in full swing, Tuesday is all about giving.Giving Tuesday is a chance for the community to help non-profits continue their missions of serving others.Officials at Dare to Care Food Bank in Louisville said that right now, there are about 175,000 in the Louisville area struggling with food insecurity. It's a number that increased 20% since before the pandemic started, officials said."We encounter people all the time who tell us that they have to make tough choices. They need to get nutritional food for their family, but maybe they're going to make a concession because there's a medical bill or medicine that they need to buy -- or they need to heat their home," said Annette Ball, Dare to Care's chief programs officer.Ball said that's why donations are so helpful. "It means a lot to us," Ball said. "Just getting the word out that there is a need in the community and seeing the support of others giving to neighbors in need, it's really impactful."Wesley House Community Services, located on Preston Highway, is also stressing the importance of donations."Your donation would be huge to us," said Xavier Santiago, the adult program coordinator at Wesley House.The non-profit offers several free childcare services. Donations would help them purchase new supplies for the children.Adults can also get help at Wesley House. They offer access to job readiness services, like resume building and more."We also do financial workshops too and everything is free to the service," Santiago said. "If we get these donations, we can maintain these services to be free.
