EastEnders will keep fans company throughout the Christmas period, albeit with a slightly modified holiday schedule.

The festive fun in Albert Square kicks off on Christmas Eve (December 24), when the BBC soap will air a half-hour episode at 8pm.

On Christmas Day and Boxing Day fans can catch up with the Walford residents a little later than usual. On December 25, the soap will air at 9.35pm, while on December 26 viewers can enjoy their festive soap episode with a nighttime cuppa as it airs at 10pm.

It is going to be a pretty dramatic festive period for the residents of Walford, with everything from a double soap wedding to a sad exit for a long-running character in the pipeline.

Recent plot rumours have also suggested that lives will be left in danger over Christmas as a bomb will be planted in Walford, with sinister newcomer Aaron (Hollyoaks star Charlie Wernham) thought to be involved as the soap's far-right storyline intensifies.

While soap bosses haven't confirmed the storyline reports as yet, a spokesperson for the soap told Digital Spy that there is a "huge winter ahead" for the characters.

"We never discuss future storylines as we don't want to spoil the surprise for the viewers," the statement read. "EastEnders has a huge winter ahead with plenty of drama in store for the viewers."

Other festive storylines set to hit our screens over the Christmas period include a double wedding for mother and daughter Denise and Chelsea Fox as they prepare to tie the knot with Jack Branning and Gray Atkins respectively, as well as hints that serial killer Gray could about to be exposed.

EastEnders airs on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays on BBC One.
