Foo Fighters Looking For New Minnesota Concert Venue Following Policy Disagreement

Foo Fighters fans in and around Minnesota were excited by news that Dave, Taylor, Pat, and the boys would be coming to the Land of 10,000 Lakes, following the announcement of a bunch of new tour dates for 2022. Now those plans are in limbo.

As announced Tuesday morning, the band was set to play a show at Huntington Bank Stadium (formerly TCF Bank Stadium) in Minneapolis on August 3, 2022. Then, a few hours later, the band announced a change in plans.

Of the 16 new dates on the roster, Minnesota's stop is apparently the only one that isn't currently in compliance with the band's COVID-19 policy. Because of this, the Foo Fighters Facebook page shared an update to their concert announcement. saying that they are working on finding a new venue to replace Huntington Bank Stadium. The band's post uses the word "refusal" in reference to the stadium's desire to agree with the band's current COVID safety measures.

The emphasize in the post that they want to find a "suitable replacement - one that will prioritize the health and safety of everyone working and attending the show".

Comments from fans ranged from support to disapproval, with some suggesting other Twin Cities area venues.

Huntington Bank Stadium has not been requiring masks, proof of vaccine, or proof of a negative COVID test for Gophers games this season. While this is the case for other venues in the state, some places have been adapting their policies for specific shows, like Xcel Energy Center did for a Harry Styles show this fall.

In the case of the Foo Fighters show, it appears Huntington Bank Stadium was not willing to adjust their policy for the outdoor venue. Thus, the announcement that they are working to find a new place to play.

This is not the first time a Minnesota venue has been at the center of a disagreement with a band's policy on COVID safety measures.

Pop band Jonas Brothers had a stare-down with Mystic Lake Casino ahead of a September show at the casino's concert venue. The Jonas Brothers had a much more strict COVID policy than the casino did for the concert, leading to concerns of the performance being canceled or moved last-minute. In the end, the two sides worked things out, and the band performed at the casino.

In the case of the Foo Fighters show, it appears that the band will just find a different venue that is willing to abide by the band's rules. The Jonas Brothers show was scheduled for a date shortly after a number of policy changes around the country this summer, meaning quick decisions needed to be made. With the Foo Fighters show about 9 months away, it gives the band time to shop around.
