One of the coolest thing about Link’s three major transformations in Majora’s Mask is that Link’s instrument changes when he is a Hylian, Deku, Goron, and Zora. While the Deku Pipes and Goron Drums are fun new additions to Link’s repertoire, neither of these instruments hold a candle to the incredible Zora Guitar. Carved from the bones of a fish (or potentially a Skullfish), the Zora Guitar stands out from the assortment of instruments found across the Zelda series. In 2001, Nintendo Power even ran a contest where lucky people could win a real guitar that was painted to look like the Zora Guitar. With only a few guitars ever made, these real life Zora guitars are extremely rare.

Speaking of guitars, if you were wondering what Zelda music would sound like if it was composed by guitar shredding rock god, then this seven minute medley by Shredley Medleys could be the answer. The smashing seven minute medley includes arrangements of iconic songs like:

  • “Great Fairy’s Fountain”
  • “Title Theme” (Ocarina of Time)
  • “Palace Theme”
  • “Farewell Hyrule King”
  • “Main Theme”
  • “Hyrule Castle”
  • “Trailer” (Twilight Princess)
  • “Zelda’s Lullaby”
  • “Lost Woods”
  • “Death Mountain”
  • “Dark Beast Ganon” (From Breath of the Wild)
  • “Ganon’s Theme”

Like the piano or violin, the guitar is an extremely versatile instrument, and this medley is a great showcase for the instrument. For example, the electric guitar creates a smooth sound for the beginning of “Great Fairy’s Fountain”, a heavy and melancholic sound for “Farewell Hyrule King”, and unleashes some thunderous licks during the end of “Trailer” from Twilight Princess.  In addition to the versatility found in the piece, the pacing of the medley is frenetic, with no one tune overstaying its welcome. I also enjoyed that the medley ends with “Ganon’s Theme.” Many medleys end with some version of the series’ “Main Theme,” but “Ganon’s Theme” is a dramatic way to conclude the seven minute piece.
