The 2021 NFL season has been going extremely poorly for the Seattle Seahawks. Even following the return of superstar quarterback Russell Wilson from injury, the team has shown no signs of life. At this point in time, making the playoffs seems like a nearly impossible outcome for Seattle.
Not only would missing the playoffs be disheartening for the Seahawks, but it could lead to some other major changes.
ESPN NFL insider Dan Graziano spoke out about what those changes could entail. The big change might just be Wilson leaving the Seahawks following the season. That is a situation that has been rumored to be a possibility for over a year now.
Wilson and the Seahawks have been at odds multiple times over the last couple of years. There have been rumors that he could demand a trade before all of these struggles. Now, with the team struggling and not playing up to its full potential, that could lead to Wilson formally trying to work his way out of Seattle.
So far this season, the Seahawks have gone 3-8 and have looked awful. Wilson has played in eight games so far this season and has completed 64.9 percent of his pass attempts for 1,811 yards, 12 touchdowns, and three interceptions. He has also picked up 118 yards and a touchdown on the ground.
Where could Russell Wilson end up if he does leave the Seahawks? There have been a lot of rumblings that the New Orleans Saints could be a future destination for him. They need a franchise quarterback and would make a lot of sense as a landing spot that Wilson would prioritize.
This is a situation to monitor closely in the coming months. Seattle will look to rebound and win some games to close out the NFL season, but the damage may already be done. The Seahawks may be a new-look football team in the very near future.
