Scott: Biden Administration is 'out of Touch With Reality'

Mayor Pete Buttigieg (D), the current Secretary of Transportation, is facing heavy scrutiny for urging Americans to buy electric cars amidst rising gas prices. Earlier, the Biden Administration announced that to combat the prices, it would be releasing barrels of oil from the United States’ strategic oil reserve.

In response, a number of prominent Republican Senators have directed criticism at both the Biden Administration and Secretary Buttigieg. Florida Senator Rick Scott (R), a vocal critic of the Biden Administration, took issue with Secretary Buttigieg’s words, calling the Administration “too out of touch with reality.”

During an interview with MSNBC’s Sunday Show with Jonathan Capeheart, the veteran and former presidential candidate argued that families who own electric vehicles would experience a “$12, 500 discount.” Moreover, Secretary Buttigieg explained that “the people who stand to benefit most from owning an EV [electric vehicle] are often rural residents who have the most distances to drive, who burn the most gas, and underserved urban residents in areas where there are higher gas prices and lower-income.”

“They would gain the most by having that vehicle,” Buttigieg shared, saying that “these are the very residents who have not always been connected to electric vehicles that are viewed as kind of a luxury item.”

In response, the Biden Administration received criticism over the suggestion, and Senator Scott took to social media to share his disapproval of the comments.

“While families are already struggling to make ends meet thanks to #Bidenflation, Secretary Pete assumes everyone can afford a new vehicle?” he questioned, expressing that the idea is “hilarious.”

“Families can barely afford to live in Biden’s America, but the Biden admin is too out of touch with reality to see that," Scott added.
