JoAnn Strelec Andel

     JoAnn Andel passed peacefully at home November 21, 2021, at the age of 82.

    Mrs. Andel was born JoAnn Strelec in the Whitehall Community outside Ganado, on February 8, 1939, to Virginia Hessong Strelec and Joe Strelec. She has a younger sister, Dorothy.

    JoAnn Strelec married Anton “Tony” V. Andel of Ganado, Texas, in the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church on October 8, 1955. She and her husband were farmers, she was the bookkeeper, and they had four children. Throughout her life she was an active church member and her faith shined through her family.

    Mrs. Andel will be remembered as a thoughtful and loving person by family and friends and by everyone she touched throughout her life. She was a lifelong homemaker who loved cooking, baking, gardening, and raising her children.

    Mrs. Andel was a member of the Catholic Daughter’s Court #1381, the KJZT Society #43, the Altar Society and a branch officer for the Catholic Life Insurance #97 for 17 years. She was an active member for RVOS, served as Vice-President, and was a 4-H Leader.

    She is preceded in death by her husband Tony Andel, daughter Mary Andel, sons-in-law; Ted F. Wacker, Allan R. Lochhead, and close friend Jerome Hlavaty.

    She is survived by her sister, Dorothy Rickaway, of Edna, daughters Karen Knebel and her husband Jerome, Carol Lochhead, also, her son Michael A. Andel, and his wife Barbara, and their family, all from Ganado. Mrs. Andel will be remembered as “Little Grandma” to her grandchildren, Tony Knebel and wife Rachel, Krystle Knebel, Brandon Andel and wife Malina, Brian Andel and wife Katie, Chelsea Knebel, and Brooke Mooney and husband TJ. She was blessed to love twelve great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

    There was a visitation on Nov. 26, with a Rosary following at Ganado Funeral Home Chapel.

    Funeral Mass was at the Assumption Catholic Church with Father Greg Korenek officiating, interment followed at Assumption Catholic Cemetery.

    Services had been entrusted to Russell Todish of Ganado Funeral Home, 800 S. Third St. Ganado, TX 77962, 361-771-2120.
