Ubisoft Could Return to Releasing Games on Steam

There have been suggestions that Ubisoft intends to return to releasing new games on Steam after a hiatus of several years.

UBISOFT BIG GAMES UNAVAILABLE ON STEAM INCLUDE:
  1. Tom Clancy's The Division 2;
  2. Far Cry 6;
  3. Assassin's Creed: Valhalla;
  4. Watch Dogs: Legion;
  5. Immortals: Fenyx Rising.

Ubisoft's could return to releasing new games on Steam. This conclusion can be drawn from the changes in the database of Valve's store.

Twitter account Gaming Updates and Countdowns discovered that yesterday Steam added support for the Ubisoft Connect PC Client. This is an indication of deeper integration between the two services, suggesting the publisher's return to this store.

Recall that until a few years ago, all Ubisoft's PC games were sold Steam as well. This has changed in 2019. Tom Clancy's The Division 2 and all subsequent games from the publisher were already released exclusively in the company's own store and in Epic Games Store. To make matters worse, these were not temporary exclusives (they did not hit Steam after a year, as is often the case). One exception was Anno 1800, which many players preordered before the change in release strategy, so they were able to download the title where they place the pre-order.

It's worth mentioning that Ubisoft has not pulled previous games from distribution on Valve's service. They are still available there, receiving add-ons and updates. Only new titles are bypassing Steam.

Now, with the addition of Ubisoft Connect PC Client support, there is hope that the situation will change and soon the publisher's newest games, such as Far Cry 6, Assassin's Creed: Valhalla, Watch Dogs: Legion, Immortals: Fenyx Rising or the aforementioned Tom Clancy's The Division 2, will go on sale on Steam.
