The New York Mets have taken the MLB offseason by storm, signing ace pitcher Max Scherzer and speedy outfielder Starling Marte to contracts, as well as complementary pieces such as outfielder Mark Canha and infielder Eduardo Escobar. A recent report by MLB Network's Jon Heyman suggests that the Mets aren't done yet, either.

Another starting pitcher and one more bat? What a spending spree by Steve Cohen and the Mets! New York already has one of, if not the, top 1-2 punches atop the rotation with Jacob deGrom and Max Scherzer, as well as an excellent table-setter and center fielder in Starling Marte- but they want more.

Cohen wasn't kidding when he told new GM Billy Eppler to spend, although no one was expecting him to spend this much, especially on Scherzer and Marte alone.

So, who else might the Mets be interested in? While the top of the rotation is solidified with DeGrom and Scherzer, the Mets could do with a mid-rotation starter to complement the rest of the starters- perhaps a Danny Duffy-type name? Or New York could opt to revamp their bullpen, an area that has agitated Mets' fans in the past.

The Mets also seem to be interested in another bat, though it may not be a resigning of Javier Baez, who seems close to a deal with the Detroit Tigers. A versatile bat, such as Chris Taylor, would seem to be a good fit for the Mets, who could use Taylor across multiple spots in their lineup, or as a fill-in in the event that injuries strike.

No matter what the Mets decide to do, new owner Steve Cohen has proven in just one offseason that his team-building philosophy is a far cry from that of New York's previous ownership.
