Kim Kardashian wrote an emotional tribute to her late friend, Virgil Abloh, one day after the fashion designer’s death following his secret battle with cancer.
In the Instagram post, the reality star reminisced about their friendship and the time they spent together, sending love to his wife and two children. “God doesn’t make mistakes. I know that but I still can’t help but ask why,” she wrote in the caption. “Why Virgil?! Why him so soon? It’s simply hard to understand why. I have a hard time understanding why so many pure souls were taken away so early.” Kim and Abloh had been friends for years, first becoming close through her estranged husband, Kanye West, who appointed him as creative director of his creative agency, Donda.

The Skims founder continued, “Virgil- you were always so gentle, kind and calm. You somehow made time for everyone. We also talked about your superpower of calmness often. You always gave so much of yourself to the world because you wanted it to be doper. This one is hard to process. I can’t even believe I am writing this…We will miss you so much Virgil and love you so much.” Abloh was an incredibly impactful figure in the fashion industry, designing for both his own label Off-White, as well as working as artistic director for Louis Vuitton menswear.
Kim also expressed her condolences to the designer’s wife and two children, writing, “I would love to send so much love to his wife Shannon. Because you loved and supported Virgil the way that you did, he was able to give so much of himself everyone else. So thank you truly for sharing him with us the way that you did. Virgil’s legacy will live on forever through Shannon, Lowe and Grey.”
In her Instagram Stories, Kim shared a handwritten note from Virgil that reads, “There’s nothing more precious than time.” She also posted an inspirational quote that says, “Cherish your life, cherish your health, cherish your family, cherish your friends. For these are the things that money can’t buy, they truly define your wealth.” West also paid tribute to his late friend over the weekend, dedicated his Sunday Service to his memory and wiping his Instagram.
