When the Boston Bruins play host to the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday evening, they will be forced to do so without the presence of head coach Bruce Cassidy.

According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, the Bruins announced on Tuesday morning that Cassidy has been placed on the NHL's COVID-19 protocol list.

While it hasn't been confirmed that Cassidy has tested positive, it has been confirmed that he is exhibiting mild symptoms.

Following outbreaks in Ottawa and Long Island, causing several postponements, there is a growing concern that additional outbreaks and postponements may force the NHL's hand and could cause the league to opt out of allowing its players to attend the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing in February.

At this point, it appears as though assistant coach Joe Sacco will act as the Bruins' head coach against the Red Wings on Tuesday.

The Bruins current hold a record of 11-7-0 on the season.
