The 2021 MLB season was one to forget for Brooks Kriske. And it came to an end Tuesday, with MLB Trade Rumors reporting the Baltimore Orioles released the former New York Yankees prospect.
Kriske, a sixth-round pick of the Yankees in 2016, made his MLB debut in 2020, appearing in four games and giving up six runs in 3.2 innings.
Things only got worse for him in 2021. Kriske made eight appearances with the Yankees, giving up 13 earned runs in 7.2 innings. That’s an ERA of 15.26, for those of you keeping score at home.
Kriske bottomed out on July 22, coming out of the bullpen to cough up a game to the Boston Red Sox. In the process, he became the first Yankees pitcher ever to throw four wild pitches in a single inning and the first on any team to throw more than three in an extra inning.
“It was just pure execution,” Kriske said before his bad night got worse with a post-game option back to Triple-A. “Part of the game. Obviously, I’ve got to do a better job, and I’m working on the consistency. I want to be someone this team can rely on in big spots. It’s something I’m going to have to do better.”
In September, Kriske was claimed off waivers by the Orioles. He made four appearances for Baltimore, giving up five runs in 3.2 innings of work.
His career starts are, in a word, terrible: 16 appearances, 15 innings pitched, 24 earned runs and a 14.40 ERA.
