That’s so metal.
Zendaya hit the red carpet at the Ballon D’Or in Paris on Monday in typically head-turning style, clad in an open-back vintage Roberto Cavalli gown outfitted with a golden creature — seemingly part scorpion, part centipede — that ran down her spine.
Letting the look’s built-in jewelry take center stage, she paired it with a sleek, side-parted bun and chunky gold Jennifer Fisher hoop earrings.
One fan couldn’t help but connect the creepy-crawly dress, which hails from Cavalli’s Fall 2000 collection, to the actress’ role in the “Spider-Man” franchise.
“Zendaya as Dr. Octopus but make it fashion,” wrote @dayacrue, posting side-by-side shots of the back of the star’s gown and Alfred Molina’s metal-armed Doc Ock.
Zendaya promptly shared the post, adding, “We love a reference.”
The “Euphoria” favorite, who attended the fête on the arm of her boyfriend and “Spider-Man” co-star Tom Holland, often opts for archival designs to make a statement on the red carpet.
Last year, she chose a vintage Versace dress from 1996 for the Green Carpet Fashion Awards.
“[Zendaya] was actually born in 1996, so I thought that it’d be fun [for her] to wear something from that year,” her stylist, Law Roach, told British Vogue at the time. “It’s taking her back — if Zendaya had been of age then, maybe she would have been a Versace model.”
Most recently, the Emmy winner rocked another archival Versace gown at the 2021 BET Awards — this time, a plunging purple number from 2003 previously seen on Beyoncé.
“Get you a stylist with a ARCHIVE!!!!” Roach quipped on social media at the time.
We can’t wait to see what other treasures are biding time in the stylist’s wardrobe.
