Is a fourth stimulus check arriving in 2022?
At this time, the Biden administration is not releasing a fourth stimulus check in 2022 and is instead choosing to focus efforts on the enhanced Child Tax Credit and The American Rescue Plan.
But some members of Congress and a good portion of the public have shown support for additional pandemic relief.
More than 2.9 million people have signed a Change.org petition called “$2000/month to every American.” The petition is “calling on Congress to support families with a $2,000 payment for adults and a $1,000 payment for kids immediately, and continuing regular checks for the duration of the crisis.”
If the petition reaches its goal of 3 million signatures, it will become one of the top signed petitions on Change.org.
Here is where most of the stimulus money was spent and the one group that is eligible to receive stimulus money in 2022.
Who received most of the third stimulus check money?
Among the most recent round of stimulus checks, 52% of them went to households making less than $50,000 per year, according to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and the U.S. Treasury.
Around 85% of the stimulus checks went to households making less than $100,000 per year or to people who did not file their tax returns in 2019 or 2020.
Single filers who made less than $75,000 per year and married couples filing jointly who made less than $150,000 per year were eligible to receive the maximum amount of cash totaling $1,400 per person.
The IRS distributed a total of $390 billion in third-round stimulus money through June 3.
The IRS doled out payments from this third-round of stimulus money for people who filed their 2020 tax returns in 2021 or are eligible for bigger payouts on their 2020 tax returns than their 2019 tax returns.
Who will get a stimulus payment in 2022?
The parents of newborns are eligible to receive payments up to $1,400 from the third and, as of right now, final round of stimulus checks issued in March.
To receive the payment, parents of the newborn child must file a tax return for 2021 in 2022 so they can receive the money in 2022.
Single parents earning up to $75,000 per year and couples making up to $150,000 per year are eligible to receive the full amount of the check.
However, even these parents of newborn children are not eligible for a fourth stimulus check in 2022.
